This commission is probably THE most ambitious Grimoire I have ever done just using straight lined (pallets) and curved (gauges) tools, a 6pt, 8pt, and 10pt hand letters and a very small pentagram.
The book is bound in a raw veg tan skin and hand coloured on the book. The colours I have used are dyes I make myself which are fermented black plums and cochineal and beet. All the work is carried out in planetary days and hours.
First the colour is applied to the spine and is layered to the required depth and then the covers treated the same .
A Latin text is then hand lettered in 24 carat gold leaf around the edges, each letter blinded in first and then over tooled again in gold leaf.
The Latin text continues around the diamond centre and then the Sigillum dei Aemeth (the seal of God) is created in the centre using different sized pallets and gauges.
The centre of the Sigillum is then hand lettered exactly to Dr. John Dee's wax copy which resides in the British Museum.
Next we have the 4 Cardinal Angels, Uriel to the North, Michael to the South, Gabriel to the West and Raphael to the East.
Each seal can take up to 100 individual impressions of individual tools...So here we now have the 4 seals of the Cardinal Angels and their sigils or celestial signatures.
Next we have Yahweh one of the 72 names of God in the Tetragrammaton. I have inverted Yahweh at the foot so which ever way the book is up God is always at the head. With of course the sigils of the Archangels.
In the 4 corners are the 4 Enochian elements, Fire, Air, Water and Earth, the top line also consists of the Schemhamphoras, Azrael, the Tetragrammaton and the cross of Metatron.
All of the other seals apart from the clients sigil and my own sigil are the Pentacles of Solomon and the Olympic Spirits. The 3 Hebrew letters within the spaces are 56 of the 72 names of God within the Tetragrammaton.
With the front cover complete, it is time to work on the verso side using exactly the same format as before continuing with the Latin text around the edges and in the centre. This time we have the Sigillum dei Lucifer and the 4 Cardinal demons and their characters...(You can see where we are heading with this now).
Yahweh again at the head this time with Lucifer at the foot with corresponding arch demon sigils
Now we have 38 of the 72 fallen Angels from the Goetia, and also the Olympic Demons or planetary spirits..Each one of these demons have been chosen for their good virtues.
So here we have a perfect mirror image of the front cover being all Angelic and the back cover being all Demonic.
The spine completes both the Sigillum dei Aemeth and the Sigillum dei Lucifer. The demonic Lamen being at the head. The right hand picture shows how the lettering is "blinded" in first and the gold leaf tooled in exactly the same place.
The names on the right on the raised bands are the names of the 7 Archangels who stand before the Lord at the End Of Days. The names on the left are their true names which are revealed by the Sigillum dei Aemeth.
Two of the Heptagon's complete the Sigillum dei Aemeth and two of the Heptagons complete the Sigillum dei Lucifer. At the foot is the Angelic Lamen in Enochian. The Latin text is the Wrath of God and continues around the very edges of the boards.
