Angling Genius
Twenty five years ago in 1979,Ronald Coleby published a limited edition of five hundred copiesof the Regional Angling Literature. On the reverse of the title page it stated that twenty five copies with a different ISBN number would have a special binding, numbering I - XXV.
Twenty five years later after the untimely death of Ronald Coleby these unbound sections were found in a cupboard on a shelf in the original printer's wrappers.
These sections were sent by Ronald's brother Raymond, to Paul Tronson at Period Fine Bindings to be bound in memory of Ronald and offered to the first 25 subscribers upon application.
The binding is half calf with hand marbled sides, the colour is made from fermented black plums, the marbled sides are of the impressive "non-pariel" design.
The tooling is kept simple, the spine is just rolled off in gold leaf without any panel work, and the sides are tooled with a patterned fillet roll.
There are 28 books in all, the first 3 are "proof copies", these are hand lettered R.A.L.- COLEBY, as are the first 5 books, the remaining 20 books have a red "willow calf" label and are numbered VI - XXV.
We think Ron may have been pleased with the results.
